If the vaping device falls into water, the first action is to remove it from the water immediately. Unless the device is designed with specific protection against water ingress, moisture will penetrate inside almost instantly.

Impurities in the water can conduct electricity, potentially creating a short circuit. Although pure water is not a good conductor, most water contains dissolved minerals. Because of the high risk of short-circuiting, it is not advisable to immediately use an e-cig that has just fallen into water, as it may suffer permanent damage and no longer work.

In addition, water can cause corrosion on the internal metal components of the device. Unlike short-circuiting, corrosion is a long-term problem that may not immediately affect the performance of the device. After a few weeks or months, the device may begin to exhibit abnormal behavior or stop working altogether.

What to do if the vaping device falls into water:

– Remove the device from the water immediately to limit water infiltration. If you are lucky, you will be able to remove the device before water damages the internal electronics.

– Avoid using the device as it may cause a short circuit. In case the device has a removable battery, it is advisable to take it out and leave the battery door open to promote air circulation.

– Next, carefully dry the inside and outside of the device to remove water.

Tips for restoring vape

If your electronic cigarette has just fallen into water, what should you do? As we have already mentioned, the priority is to avoid a short circuit, remove the device from the water, then remove the battery and leave the battery compartment open.

If you are using a device with a removable tank or capsule, you should also remove the tank or capsule and set them aside. If necessary, you can clean the component by rinsing it with clean water and letting it air dry. Since a tank or capsule has no electronic components, you do not need to worry about a short circuit. It is also important to disassemble the device as much as possible to encourage airflow.

After removing as many vaping components as possible, the next step should be manual water removal. One of the easiest ways to remove water from a disposable vape is also to blow through the device to get the water out of the vent hole. Hold a paper towel over the air intake hole at the bottom of the device as you blow hard through the mouthpiece. This method can help remove a significant amount of water if it has entered the device.
