Many people have wondered at least once what is in the liquid and vapor of electronic cigarettes. Now we will try to explain in detail the composition of the liquids, flavorings and bases that are used in the atomizer tank.
First of all, the composition is well defined and formulated with the following components:
- Propylene glycol
- Vegetable glycerol
- Flavors
- Liquid nicotine
- Demineralized water (not present in all cases)
Propylene glycol
Propylene glycol is a liquid, odorless, transparent chemical compound with a sweet taste. In electronic cigarettes, it is used at close to 100% purity. Compared to vegetable glycerol, it is more fluid but still produces a good amount of vapor and offers a more pronounced sensation during inhalation, known as “throat hit.” Propylene glycol retains flavor molecules better, making the vapor of the vape more fragrant and tasty.
Vegetable glycerol
Vegetable glycerol is a plant-derived additive made from extracts of vegetable oils, such as palm oil, soybean oil or coconut oil. It is a viscous, thick substance with a sweet taste that produces a large amount of vapor during spraying. Because of its viscosity, liquids that contain high amounts of vegetable glycerol may not be suitable for traditional atomizers, but are perfect for atomizers with higher airflow, such as drippers.
Neutral bases with liquid nicotine
Whether you choose to vape a neutral base or a flavored liquid with added flavor, you can do so with or without nicotine, which can be added in different concentrations. It is important to keep in mind that although it is an organic compound, nicotine is addictive. However, unlike traditional cigarettes, you can gradually reduce doses over time. The concentration of nicotine present affects the intensity of the sensation in vaping: the higher the concentration, the more pronounced the perception will be during inhalation.
Concentrated flavorings for intense taste in vaping
As explained earlier, propylene glycol and vegetable glycerol make up the neutral base of electronic cigarettes, which can be vaped as is without the addition of other components, but has no flavor. To impart flavor, most vapers add a flavor to the neutral base, which can be of two types:
- Natural: made by extracting natural raw materials or with chemical molecules that are identical to natural ones.
- Synthetic: created with molecules completely synthesized in the laboratory because they do not exist in nature.
In either case, one only needs to dilute the flavor in specific percentages in the neutral base to obtain a flavored liquid to be placed in the tank of the atomizer.
Demineralized water
Demineralized water is used to make the liquid more fluid when it is particularly thick. Not everyone uses it, and if you wish to try adding it, remember that the percentage should be less than 15 percent. After discovering the composition of a liquid, you can try making a DIY liquid with your favorite flavorings.

Articolo molto interessante per chi, come me, fosse interessato a creare liquidi fatti in casa. grazie!
Sapevo che era possibile fare i propri liquidi, ma grazie a te ora ho tutte le informazioni di cui ho bisogno per iniziare. Ottimo articolo!
Congratulations on an informative and well-structured article.
