Summer is approaching and it’s time to plan your vacation! We took a legislative look at some of the most popular locations around the world to see if e-smokers can enjoy a vacation without any problems.
Planning a vacation can be stressful in itself, without having to worry further about whether or not you can use your vaping device legally. With summer now just around the corner, we know that many of you are looking forward to your vacation, but if you want to use your electronic cigarette while traveling, it is important to consider where to go.
Although the idea of having a safer, healthier alternative to cigarettes while on vacation sounds appealing, there are many places where vaping is frowned upon. Also, if you buy vaping products locally, it may not be easy to find the same nicotine strengths and flavors you are used to at home.
Vapouround has compiled a list, which we report here, of the rules and customs of some of the world’s most popular travel destinations to help travelers understand where they can use e-cigarettes. Below you can find information for some cities:
- New York, United States of America: New York laws include all electronic cigarettes, regardless of whether they contain nicotine or not. Electronic cigarettes are not allowed in places where smoking is prohibited, such as residential common areas, restaurants, sports arenas and workplaces. In addition, the sale of electronic cigarettes is prohibited to those under the age of 21 and without a valid electronic cigarette retail license. The sale of flavored e-cig products is not allowed.
- Kingston, Jamaica: residents and tourists may purchase e-cigarettes and vaping products as long as they are over 18 years old. Outdoors, vaping is allowed.
- Amsterdam, Netherlands: legally, vaping is allowed outdoors everywhere in the Netherlands, but in the past, the use and import of electronic cigarettes was almost banned. In Amsterdam, the city’s relaxed atmosphere allows vaping freely in some outdoor places, but it is not allowed in restaurants or cafes. While the city is known for its tolerance of cannabis use, vaping is viewed more restrictively.
- Tokyo, Japan: Japan is one of the few Asian countries that has not adopted restrictive policies toward vaping. Although the purchase of e-liquid in Japan is only allowed for nicotine-free bottles, tourists can safely carry a small supply of e-juice containing nicotine, as personal importation is allowed. Surprisingly, indoor vaping is not restricted as long as zero-nicotine e-juice is used.
- Bangkok, Thailand: despite Bangkok attracting nearly 23 million tourists each year, vaping has been completely banned in Thailand since 2014. Many vaping enthusiasts traveling to the Thai capital must adapt or quit smoking for the duration of their stay, as e-cigarettes, as well as mods and e-juice refills, are banned. Those caught vaping or even possessing an electronic smoking device face up to ten years in prison or a fine of 30,000 Baht.
